About The City & Guilds Level 2 Award in F Gas and ODS Regulations

The City & Guilds Level 2 Award in F Gas and ODS Regulations: Category I qualification is for those individuals who work or want to work with fluorinated gases and ozone depleted substances, as engineers in the refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump sector.

The qualification covers the knowledge and skills required to work with fluorinated greenhouse gases. Engineers will develop knowledge and skills to meet the legal requirements to work on the installation, service, maintenance, recovery and leak checking, reducing direct/indirect gas emissions, of stationary refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump equipment that contains refrigerants classified as either fluorinated (F) gases or ozone depleting substances (ODS).

Assessment Information

Focussing on the major principles of F-Gas and Ozone depleting substances (ODS) in stationery refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump systems, learners who successfully complete this qualification will be legally entitled to work on these systems within the UK in line with the 2009 F-Gas and ODS Regulations.

Assessments consist of a combination of practical and multiple choice, closed book, theory examinations.

Pre-requisites

This is a qualification designed for experienced workers, it is not entry level qualification. It is desirable that candidates would have gained an existing qualification or possess significant equivalent experience in the sector. 

Without evidence of formal qualifications, candidates must be able to demonstrate adequate prior knowledge and experience to ensure they have the potential to successfully gain the qualification.

• These qualifications are based upon the meeting the current legal requirements in accordance with the Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases and Ozone-Depleting Substances regulations. City & Guilds cannot be held responsible for any alterations made in the future which alter the qualifications requirements.
• Successful achievement of any of these qualifications is not the sole requirement for practising in accordance with the Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases and Ozone-Depleting Substances regulations. Candidates should ensure they are fully aware of the requirements according to the regulations before working with fluorinated gases or ozone-depleting substances.

Expiry Information

Once awarded, this is a lifelong qualification with no expiry.

Weekend training and assessment available. Training is not a prerequisite of assessment.
